Vital Statistics
Rules for who may purchase a certified copy of a Birth or Death certificate changed as of July, 1, 2019. Please note Clerks cannot make a copy from the files in the vault. They may make a copy from the State Database on Births and Deaths. You may submit an application for a Certified Birth or Death Certificate using the application below. There is an instruction page as well or you may order online at https://secure.vermont.gov/VSARA/vitalrecords/.
Birth Certificates – A residence copy will be on file if your parents resided in Town at the time of your birth. There will not be a record on file for births out of state. Records for births at Dartmouth Hitchcock would be at the Grafton County Courthouse. You may visit them at http://publicrecords.onlinesearches.com/New-Hampshire-Birth-Records.htm.
Marriage Licenses – As of July 1, 2023, Marriage License Fees have increased to $80.00. There will be a record on file if you resided in Town when married. There will be a record on file for couples from out of state who purchased a license in Town.
Death Certificates – A person with a declared residence in Chelsea at the time of passing will have a record on file. If the person passed away out of state such as Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the record will be in Grafton County Courthouse. You may visit that site at http://publicrecords.onlinesearches.com/New-Hampshire-Death-Records.htm.
